Wetlands and Water Quality are synonymous and as both play such vital roles in our communities and shared ecosystem, require careful planning to avoid, minimize, and mitigate impacts to either, as a result of development and construction.
QALC³ is passionate about Water Quality, so we acknowledge a sincere affinity for watershed and Wetland protection, and for good reason. Wetlands do a lot of the dirty work necessary for us to all have clean freshwater streams, rivers, lakes, and drinking water. It doesn't stop with water quality, either. Wetland and backwater bodies help with groundwater recharge, stream bank protection, and so many other services, critical to our communities and environment. They even sequester carbon.
Quality Wetland protection starts with understanding geographic jurisdiction. Good delineators need to be experts in hydrology, soils science, and Botany. Our analysis and reports will draw on indicators from all three realms to define the presence and extent of wetlands, on your project site. From here, we can integrate this data into other reports or compile further data and seek either approved or preliminary Jurisdictional Determinations from USACE. If you are seeking to appeal a previous USACE Approved determination, we can help you with that, as well.
Our experience with internal USACE regulatory operations makes for smoother and more efficient interactions with the Corp.
All discussions of impacts and mitigation begin with determining how many acres of wetlands are present and how many are to be impacted. There is no way to know this without a physical delineation on the ground. QALC³ is at home in the backwaters. We know firsthand how USACE wants the lines flagged and easily indexable in mapping, for their review processes. We will conduct extensive field studies and provide a professional Delineation Report with as many data points as it takes to achieve a USACE concurrence.
Wetland ecosystems provide a home to a full one third of the entire worlds endangered species, so it's no wonder Endangered Species Surveys are a required deliverable for National Wetland Permit coverage. Our staff is able to perform these in-house and either generate professional stand-alone reports or integrate our findings into larger studies or permit packages, done by ourselves or others.
Specializing in Hydric soils and soils analysis and classification means we are able to assess the soils profile and inventory of your site. We also work with geological and geotechnical professionals for more in-depth geotechnical studies to analyze subsoil conditions.
Mapping is a critical function for wetland permitting and jurisdictional determinations. both require numerous mapping exhibits in their application packages. Based on scope, we can provide cutting edge mapping of our findings and all aquatic features for the deliverable exhibits required by the applicable USACE permits and for seamless integration into any concept drawings, survey basemaps, and/or design drawing files created for the project, going forward.
With extensive specialized Wetland and Watershed Protection experience, QALC³ remains on the cutting edge of Wetlands analysis, delineation, mapping, recording, permit protection, mitigation, and banking assistance. We are experienced with the Nexus portion and procedure of the USACE review process. If you have a non-connected wetland on your site, we can show the permitting authorities that they have no jurisdiction. The plan reviewers and regulators from the Corps of Engineers are eager to work with us and we know firsthand how to work seamlessly with them.
If your project has impacts that meet the threshold, USACE will require verification that you have confirmed the availability of mitigation credits with an acceptable Wetlands Mitigation bank. Depending on your project site's location, QALC³ has an established network of banks that we can call upon to help secure your credits. You must obtain and provide documentation in the form of an approved Statement of Availability (SOA) from an accredited mitigation bank, in order to obtain your permit coverage from USACE.
